Our Role

  • High School Academies That Link Career Technical Education with College-Prep Curriculum

Even the grandest of aspirations needs a plan of directed action. Career Pathway Academies offer tremendous opportunities to take students from the classroom to the workplace. That’s why the Palm Springs Unified School District (PSUSD) is an advocate for these exciting programs. Career-technical educational programs are positive and effective solutions that increase student attendance and high school graduation, which is what we all seek.

Career Technical Education (CTE) in California is organized into 15 industry sectors, or groupings, which link to specific career pathways. A career pathway is a coherent sequence of rigorous academic and technical courses that allow students to apply academics and to develop technical skills in a curricular area. Career pathways prepare students for successful completion of state academic and technical standards and more advanced postsecondary course work related to the career in which they are interested.

Upon graduation from high school, students are ready to begin work, or continue with regional post-secondary education.   Post-secondary education is pursued at College of the Desert (COD)California State College San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus,  the University of California Riverside Palm Desert Campus, and other post-secondary institutions.
