Dr. Vikki Chavez

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year. It is my absolute honor and privilege to serve the James Workman Middle School community as your principal. While the year is just kicking off, we already have many reasons to celebrate. First off, we welcome a third assistant principal, Ms. Tommi Jones, to our administrative team. She will be joining Mr. Bayardo (6th grade AP) and Mr. Cullinan (7th grade AP) as their 8th grade teammate. Another cause to celebrate is that in June, members of our staff were invited to Washington, D.C. to receive national recognition for being a model middle school. During the summer, we also had staff members who have been working hard throughout the summer to prepare for new college and career pathway electives, including UC Riverside's Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) program and the nationally recognized Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, to name just a couple.

This year, we also introduce a more comprehensive student success plan. Our mission is "To provide equitable learning opportunities so that students can discover capabilities and build stronger character to reach their highest potential." To that end, we have committed to ensuring that students receive the best possible program to meet them at their academic and social-emotional levels. As we continue to rebuild and reteach after pandemic-induced school closures, we have identified areas that will ensure we are on the path to realizing our mission, and are excited to see the great things our students can achieve through these programs. This year marks my 28th year in education, and I am certain that this year will be the best one yet! Thank you for the trust you have given us in serving your students. We look forward to meeting you all!

Sincerely,

Dr. Vikki Chavez, Principal
