PSUSD Superintendent Announces Retirement at End of School Year
PALM SPRINGS – Palm Springs Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Tonatiuh ‘Tony’ Signoret has announced that he will retire from the District on June 30, 2025.
Signoret began his career in PSUSD as a teacher in 1992 and became interim superintendent in 2023 before becoming the district’s permanent superintendent last year.
“Throughout his tenure in the District, Dr. Signoret has served PSUSD with exemplary commitment, leadership, dedication and devotion,” said Board of Education President Sergio Espericueta. “We are extremely grateful for his impeccable service and moving our district forward under his leadership. Though we regret that he will not be continuing with us longer, we congratulate him on an amazing career and wish him the very best in his well-earned retirement. He is arguable the most visible superintendent in the district’s history, and he will be greatly missed!”
In a letter to staff, parents and community members today, Signoret, who has two of his 10 children still enrolled in the district, shared that the decision to retire though difficult is the best for him and his family at this time.
“After 35 years in education, the time has come for me to make a difficult decision but one I feel is the right one,” wrote Signoret. “It is time for me to spend more time with my family at home, as well as my children that live across the country, Europe and my parents in Mexico. While I may be retiring from my official role, my relationship with my PSUSD family will remain strong.“
With a bachelor’s degree from Whittier College, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Chapman University, and a doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne, Signoret has spent the majority of his 35-year career in education with PSUSD. He began as a bilingual teacher at Agua Caliente Elementary and has also served as a District assistant principal and principal at the elementary and middle school level before becoming PSUSD’s Director of Certificated Human Resources in 2011. He also served as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources at Desert Sands Unified School District for two years before returning to PSUSD as the District’s Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources in 2017. Raised in Mexico City, Dr. Signoret is also fully bilingual in Spanish.
The Board of Education will begin its search for Signoret’s replacement shortly and hopes to name his successor prior to the end of the school year.
