Riverside County SELPA Community Advisory Committee (CAC)
Palm Springs Unified School District is a member of the Riverside County SELPA and a member of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC).
What Is the CAC?
The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is a team of parents and other individuals with a personal or professional interest in working with parents, students, teachers, education specialists, and consultants. Its purpose is to build a networking system between the Riverside County SELPA, local education agencies (LEAs), schools, and the community. CAC members encourage parents to actively participate in their child's education and to become knowledgeable, empowered, effective partners in developing and implementing learning experiences for students with special education needs.
CAC members are appointed by their local education agency governing board. Parents interested in joining should contact their special education director.
The CAC Works for You & Your Child To:
- Provide a support group for parents
- Provide opportunities to talk with professionals who work with children with special needs
- Increase awareness of the importance of regular school attendance
- Encourage community involvement in the development and review of the local plan
- Provide parent education and training
- Support activities on behalf of children with special needs
- Provide an open forum within CAC meetings for discussion, committee reports, and guest speakers
