HERO Safe Schools
The family connection is vitally important to the H.E.R.O. Squad. As such, each lesson includes a journal activity capturing feelings that can inform the family of their child’s response to the program. There are also extension activities that are designed to increase their safe-thinking beyond the classroom to their homes and beyond.
National Standards for Family-School Partnerships
PTA’s process for building successful partnerships starts with the National Standards for Family-School Partnerships and consists of three steps:
- Raising awareness about the power of family and community involvement.
- Taking action to cultivate involvement through specific programs and practices.
- Celebrating success as your school sees increased involvement and its impact.

Partners in Education: The Dual Capacity-Building Framework
Partners in Education: A Dual Capacity-Building Framework for Family–School Partnerships is a publication of SEDL in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education. It presents a new framework for designing family engagement initiatives that build capacity among educators and families to partner with one another around student success. Based in existing research and best practices, this report is designed to act as a scaffold for the development of family engagement strategies, policies, and programs.
